Timing shapes the choice as much as the score. GAMSAT is graduate-only and sits in March and September; UCAT-ANZ is mostly undergraduate and sits in July. A few schools run their own selection model with no national test at all.

ATAR and academic profile

JCU Dental requires Year 12 ATAR with English, Mathematical Methods and Chemistry prerequisites (all Units 3/4, C) — Specialist Mathematics satisfies the Mathematical Methods prerequisite and any Queensland Year 12 English subject (English, English as an Additional Language, English and Literature Extension, Essential English or Literature) satisfies the English prerequisite; Biology is recommended but not required.

Prerequisites must be completed before an offer — JCU makes no conditional offers. Non-school-leavers are assessed on tertiary GPA instead of ATAR. Written application statements in the JCU Application Portal (up to 300 words each) plus up to three compulsory Letters of Support, due 30 September. No UCAT-ANZ, no GAMSAT and no interview.

UQ Doctor of Dental Medicine requires A bachelor’s degree in health, allied health, physical sciences or biological sciences with a GPA of 5.0 on a 7-point scale; university-level human anatomy and human physiology or cellular physiology completed within the 10 years before commencement; GAMSAT sat within 4 years prior to the year of commencement with a minimum score of 50 in each section; and completion of a situational judgement test in the year of application.

Applications are made directly to UQ, not through GEMSAS.

Graduate-entry GPA. JCU Dental — Non-school-leaver applicants (schooling finished more than two years ago and/or 1 FTE or more of bachelor-level study in the last 10 years) MUST have tertiary study to be considered, and JCU states… UQ Doctor of Dental Medicine — Minimum GPA 5.0 on a 7-point scale.
