What you’re up against

Roughly two hours, four timed subtests, one July sitting. Here’s the blueprint — bars scaled to the minutes you get in each subtest. The three cognitive subtests are reported as an aggregate total out of 2,700; the SJT is banded separately (Band 1 best).

The crucial difference

How Australian schools use it

The same UCAT-ANZ score does very different work at each school — from a ~25% weighting to an almost-total interview shortlist — so your preparation should follow your targets, not a generic plan.

UNSW & Macquarie (Sydney)

Weighted · ~25%

For 2026 entry UCAT-ANZ is roughly 25% of the final offer ranking, with the interview making up the remaining ~75%, after an ATAR hurdle. Competitive applicants sit around the 80th percentile or above — the score is genuinely worth maximising.

ATAR is a hurdle requirement; the interview carries most of the final weight.

JMP (Newcastle / UNE) & Western Sydney

Interview shortlist ≈ 100%

Once you clear the ATAR hurdle, UCAT-ANZ is effectively the whole story for the interview-selection stage — it decides who is shortlisted. Western Sydney admits at a slightly lower threshold (~2050+), so a solid rather than elite score can still get you interviewed.

ATAR is a pass/fail gate; UCAT-ANZ does the ranking for interview offers.

Monash (undergraduate)

Composite · 25/25/50

The Direct/Provisional pathway blends ~25% ATAR + ~25% UCAT cognitive (SJT not counted) + ~50% MMI. Cut-offs run high — competitive applicants land near 2380/2700 (around the 94th percentile) for the Direct Pathway.

SJT is not added to the cognitive total here; the MMI carries half the weight.

Adelaide, UWA, Curtin & Tasmania

Shortlist & thresholds

Adelaide uses the cognitive subtests to drive its interview shortlist with SJT as a tiebreaker, plus a strong South-Australian bonus-region effect. UWA Direct Pathway needs a competitive UCAT alongside a high ATAR. Curtin builds its shortlist on 35 ATAR : 35 CASPer : 30 UCAT, and Tasmania applies a threshold (indicatively ~2530/2700).

Curtin also requires CASPer; Adelaide, La Trobe and JCU use UCAT-ANZ for dentistry too.
