Read every ATAR figure as a selection rank, not a raw score. Educational access bonuses, rural-origin uplift and Indigenous pathways all adjust it, so the published number is rarely the one that decides your application.

Bonded places come through the federal Bonded Medical Program, under which universities must allocate 28.5% of commencing Commonwealth Supported Places in medicine (Department of Health conditions document, December 2025); a small number of further places are reserved under the QTAC Rural Access Scheme.

MRBS (Medical Rural Bonded Scholarship) is a closed legacy scheme — replaced nationally by BMP from 2020 — so the "100% MRBS bonded" framing some guides use is inaccurate.

The MBBS runs 6 years; JCU says students complete at least 20 weeks of rural and remote placements (the 2027 calendar allocates four weeks in Year 2, and in 2021 the AMC recorded rural blocks of six weeks in Year 4 and ten weeks in Year 6), through a network that includes nine Rural Health Sites, with optional extended placements and year-long integrated clerkships.
