Why do you want to be a DO, and what specifically drew you to osteopathic rather than allopathic medicine?

Central Florida has one of the fastest-growing and most diverse populations in the United States. How do you see your practice contributing to this community?

Research Central Florida: large Hispanic/Latino population, significant Puerto Rican community, theme park worker demographics, retiree communities, and rapid suburban growth creating healthcare access gaps.

A patient who has recently immigrated to the US presents with a complex chronic condition. She speaks limited English and is uninsured. What are your responsibilities and priorities?

Language access (interpreter services), uncompensated care options, FQHC referrals, cultural humility, and the ethical obligation to provide care regardless of immigration status.

Florida has a large uninsured population and did not expand Medicaid for many years. How does this shape the healthcare challenges facing physicians practicing here?

Florida's Medicaid expansion history (eventually expanded in 2023), charity care burden on hospitals, safety-net health systems, and the particular vulnerability of low-income and immigrant workers.

Tell me about a time you had to adapt your communication style significantly for a patient or colleague. What did you learn?

Interpersonal adaptability and patient-centred communication. Use a real healthcare example if possible — Central Florida's diversity makes cultural and linguistic communication skills especially relevant.

What do you know about AdventHealth and how the Orlando COM clinical partnership works?

Research AdventHealth — its Christian-mission health system, its flagship Celebration campus, and what clinical rotations at AdventHealth sites might involve. Knowing the main clinical partner demonstrates serious research.

Describe a time you had to demonstrate resilience in the face of significant uncertainty or setbacks. How did you adapt?

Newer institutions by definition involve more uncertainty than established schools. Demonstrate that you can thrive in ambiguity, adapt to evolving systems, and contribute constructively when things are being built.

You're a student-doctor at an AdventHealth-affiliated Central Florida clinic. A Puerto Rican patient who moved to Orlando after a hurricane is anxious, uninsured, and unsure how the mainland system works. She needs ongoing care for a chronic condition. Talk with her.

Welcoming, plain-language orientation to the system, interpreter use if needed, FQHC and assistance options, continuity planning, and cultural sensitivity to displacement. Build trust and reduce her overwhelm.

Orlando COM's curriculum and systems are still maturing as a 2023 school. Describe a time you organised yourself and succeeded when the structure around you was still being built, and how you'd verify you were truly mastering material.

Concrete self-management example in an evolving environment plus a learning-verification method, scaled to an osteopathic preclinical curriculum and COMLEX-USA. Tie it honestly to the new-school context.

A theme-park worker comes in exhausted, working multiple jobs, and brushes off your advice to rest and follow up because he simply can't afford to. How do you tailor the conversation?

Meet his economic reality, prioritise the most essential interventions, find low-cost and flexible options, and avoid advice that ignores his constraints. Patient-centred adaptation to a service-economy life.

On rotation at a newer school still formalising its policies, you witness something that feels ethically wrong but isn't covered by an existing rule. What do you do?

Core ethical principles and patient safety over the absence of a written policy, seeking guidance, documenting, and proposing improvement. Show ethics doesn't wait for a rule to exist.

Why osteopathic medicine for a fast-growing, diverse community like Central Florida, and where would OMT realistically fit into the primary care you'd practise here?

Whole-person, culturally responsive care for a diverse, growing population, plus OMT for musculoskeletal complaints common in service and physical-labour work. Ground the DO choice in shadowing rather than slogans.

If a Central Florida clinic found that Spanish-speaking patients were far less likely to complete recommended follow-up, what would you want to learn before concluding anything about 'compliance'?

Language access, interpreter availability, work flexibility, transport, cost, and trust. Treat the gap as a structural and access problem to be measured, framed through socioeconomic and lived-experience lenses.
