What A-Levels do I need for medicine in the UK?

Most UK medical schools require Chemistry plus one of Biology, Mathematics or Physics. Almost all expect AAA or A*AA at A-Level. Check each school's how-to-get-in guide for the exact subject combination.

Do I need A-Level Biology to apply for medicine?

Most schools accept Chemistry + (Biology, Maths or Physics) — Biology is preferred but not always required. Schools that strictly require Biology include Cambridge, Oxford and Edinburgh. Check the school's how-to-get-in page for specifics.

Can I apply to medicine with AAB at A-Level?

Most UK medical schools require AAA at minimum, with several requiring A*AA. AAB is accepted by a small number of contextual / widening-participation routes (e.g. Hull York, Liverpool contextual offer). Look for "Contextual offer" in each school's entry-requirements section.

How does A-Level performance fit into medical school selection?

Most schools require you to meet their grade requirement (typically AAA or A*AA) but do not score above it. A few (Imperial, Cambridge, KCL) do continue to score predicted grades alongside UCAT. GCSE performance often matters more than A-Level performance for shortlisting.
