UK Medical School Rankings 2027

UK medical schools ranked by the NGMP Score — our single 0–100 rating of how strong each school is for medicine, built from graduate outcomes, student satisfaction, entry standards, continuation and research quality, plus our own TrueScore for how competitive each school is to enter.

Newer schools without published outcomes data yet sit at the bottom. For the UCAT entry methodology see /truescore.

What the NGMP Score measures

The NGMP Score rates each UK medical school out of 100 on the things that actually shape a medicine degree: graduate outcomes (where students go after they qualify), student satisfaction with teaching and support, entry standards, continuation (how many students stay and complete) and research quality — combined with our own TrueScore, the UCAT bar needed to win an interview.

It is built from the established national assessments of UK higher education, so the score reflects real, measured performance rather than reputation or marketing. Graduate-entry schools without a UCAT TrueScore are given a neutral entry score, so every ranked school is rated on the same basis.

NGMP Score (0–100) rates graduate outcomes, student satisfaction, entry standards, continuation and research quality, combined with our TrueScore entry data. Higher = stronger overall.

Score tiers explained

Top tier

NGMP Score 75+

The strongest schools — top graduate outcomes and student satisfaction, the highest entry standards, and among the most competitive to enter.

Upper tier

60–74.9

Strongly rated on outcomes, satisfaction and teaching, with competitive entry standards.

Mid tier

45–59.9

Solid, well-established programmes that rate respectably across every measure — realistic, high-quality choices for most applicants.

Emerging tier

Below 45

Lower on current measures — often the newest schools. A blank score means the school is too new to have published outcomes data yet (not a quality judgement).

Frequently asked questions

The NGMP Score rates each UK medical school out of 100 on the factors that define a strong medicine degree — graduate outcomes, student satisfaction, entry standards, continuation (how many students stay and complete) and research quality — combined with our own TrueScore, which measures how competitive the school is to enter. It is built from the established national assessments of UK higher education, so it reflects measured performance rather than reputation.

Imperial College London, Oxford and Cambridge sit at the very top — strong graduate outcomes and student satisfaction, the highest entry standards, and among the most competitive UCAT bars to clear. But the best school for you depends on teaching style, location and how your UCAT and GCSE profile fits each school’s selection.

A blank score means the school is too new to have published outcomes and assessment data yet (most of the newest medical schools opened in the last few years). It is not a quality judgement — every UK medical school is GMC-accredited to the same standard. Those schools are listed at the bottom with their TrueScore where we have one.

Yes — student satisfaction with teaching and academic support is a core input, alongside graduate outcomes, entry standards and research. That said, UK medical curricula are GMC-regulated to a common standard, so differences between schools are often as much about teaching STYLE (PBL vs traditional vs integrated) as absolute quality.

Annually, as the latest national outcomes, satisfaction and entry data is published.
