What does the NGMP Score measure?

The NGMP Score rates each UK medical school out of 100 on the things that actually shape a medicine degree, as measured by the Complete University Guide, Guardian, Times and QS medicine subject tables: graduate outcomes (where students go after they qualify), student satisfaction with teaching and support, entry standards, continuation (how many students stay and complete) and research quality — combined (70:30) with NextGen MedPrep’s TrueScore, the UCAT bar needed to win an interview.

A school absent from one table simply does not contribute that source, so absence is never a penalty. Graduate-entry schools without a UCAT TrueScore are given the median entry score, so every ranked school is rated on the same basis. The 13 newest schools appear in none of the 2026 tables, so they are listed as not yet ranked rather than given a score.

How is the NGMP medical school ranking calculated?

NextGen MedPrep’s NGMP Score rates each UK medical school out of 100. 70% comes from the school’s positions in the Complete University Guide, Guardian, Times and QS medicine subject tables, which measure graduate outcomes, student satisfaction, entry standards, continuation (how many students stay and complete) and research quality; 30% comes from NextGen MedPrep’s TrueScore, which measures how competitive the school is to enter. It reflects measured performance rather than reputation.

Some schools show no score — why?

A blank score means the school is too new to have published outcomes and assessment data yet (most of the newest medical schools opened in the last few years). It is not a quality judgement — every UK medical school is GMC-accredited to the same standard. Those schools are still listed in the table, labelled “Not yet ranked”, with their TrueScore where one exists.

Do these rankings reflect teaching quality?

Yes — student satisfaction with teaching and academic support is a core input, alongside graduate outcomes, entry standards and research. That said, UK medical curricula are GMC-regulated to a common standard, so differences between schools are often as much about teaching STYLE (PBL vs traditional vs integrated) as absolute quality.

How often is the ranking updated?

Annually, as the latest national outcomes, satisfaction and entry data is published.
