Overview

The Leeds medicine course at a glance

Clinical placements from year 1 and an "active learning" model built on authentic cases. Leeds also runs a Patient, Carer Community that puts students alongside patients outside the clinical encounter.

Teaching

How Leeds teaches medicine

An "Active Learning approach" with "authentic case-based learning", combining lecture theatre, laboratory and healthcare-setting teaching with smaller group seminars.

What that means day to day

Case-based learning
Like PBL but more structured — the case comes with defined learning outcomes and a facilitator keeps the group on the intended path.
Integrated
Basic science and clinical medicine are taught together from the start rather than as separate pre-clinical and clinical halves.

When you first meet patients

Clinical placements from year one.
