Overview

The Lancaster medicine course at a glance

Lancaster deliberately runs small-group active learning instead of lecture blocks, using case-based learning and Anatomage tables. The placement network is wide — over 70 healthcare providers across Lancashire, Cumbria and Yorkshire.

Teaching

How Lancaster teaches medicine

"Active learning in small groups" rather than traditional lectures — case-based learning, clinical skills teaching, simulation-based learning, anatomy teaching and early and ongoing patient contact.

What that means day to day

Case-based learning
Like PBL but more structured — the case comes with defined learning outcomes and a facilitator keeps the group on the intended path.

When you first meet patients

Clinical placements begin in year 2, after a year of simulated patient contact.

Anatomy

Anatomy at Lancaster

Imaging and models. Anatomy is taught "using modern tools like Anatomage tables".
