Overview

The Newcastle medicine course at a glance

A case-led course built around 24 clinical cases in the first two years, then three clinical years spread across base units in the north east. Newcastle also runs a Malaysian campus, and year 2 students can spend time there.

Teaching

How Newcastle teaches medicine

A "case-led teaching approach" in which clinical cases are "used to help you make the links between your new knowledge and clinical practice".

What that means day to day

Case-based learning
Like PBL but more structured — the case comes with defined learning outcomes and a facilitator keeps the group on the intended path.

When you first meet patients

Clinical placements begin in year 3, after campus-based years with hospital and practice visits.
