Methodology
Glasgow publishes one UCAT interview threshold per fee-status group each cycle. For 2026 entry — the first cycle on the three-subtest /2700 scale — those thresholds were Scots Domiciled 1,870, Rest of UK 1,990 and International & EU 2,150. Carried forward as the 2027 prediction: Glasgow does not publish 2027 thresholds until the cycle completes in September 2027.
Caveat
Wholly UCAT-based shortlisting once academic minimums, personal statement and reference are judged satisfactory - TrueScore is the de-facto floor. Glasgow sets separate Scots-domiciled, RUK and International thresholds, and the RUK bar sits about 120 points above the Scottish one. SJT not used. Earlier cycles were scored on the retired /3600 four-subtest scale and are not comparable.

Glasgow's Scottish-tier TrueScore is 1870. Build a week-by-week UCAT plan that works back from your test date — free for the first two weeks.
The UCAT is a 2-hour computer-based aptitude test of Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and a separately-banded Situational Judgement Test. It is taken between July and early September of the year you apply. Resit policy
Resits permitted only with exceptional circumstances; standard expectation is one-sitting AAA.
International qualifications
IB 38 with 666 at Higher Level (including Chemistry).
Contextual offers (widening participation)
Glasgow's adjusted entry route is for Scotland-domiciled widening-access applicants and requires successful completion of the Reach programme. The adjusted Higher offer is AAABB or AAAAC in S5 (the C may not be in Chemistry) plus BC at Advanced Higher in S6, against the standard AAAAB plus BB.
Eligibility for contextual consideration typically requires evidence of: state-funded secondary education in a deprived postcode (POLAR4 Q1-2), eligibility for free school meals, being care-experienced, or first-in-family university entry. Check University of Glasgow's contextual policy directly and submit supporting evidence on time.
How Glasgow actually selects
A staged process running October to March. Applications are first assessed on achieved and predicted qualifications, personal statement and reference; UCAT scores are released to the admissions team later in the cycle and used to allocate interviews among those who cleared that screen. Interview scores are then accumulated and offers made, with most processed by the end of March. Applicants who narrowly miss may be revisited if places free up.

From 2026 entry the UCAS personal statement is structured into three answers (your reasons for applying, your preparation, your key skills/experiences) sharing one 4,000-character total - split it roughly equally, about 1,300 characters each. Treat each prompt as a discrete short-answer question, not a continuous essay.

The Panel interview at Glasgow
Glasgow uses Panel interview. For 2027 entry, interviews typically take place in December 2026 - February 2027. Final decisions are released March 2027 onwards.
At Glasgow, expect the following from the panel interview. Panel-style interview - typically 20-40 minutes with 2-4 interviewers (a mix of academic staff and clinicians, sometimes a current student or admissions specialist). Questions probe in depth; expect follow-ups that test how you reason rather than what you've memorised.
How the Glasgow Panel actually runs
One 30-minute session split into two parts, Panel A and Panel B, with the same two interviewers covering both. Panel A explores your motivation for medicine and teamwork; Panel B covers communication and an ethical scenario, where you pick one of two offered. The style is conversational and nothing has to be written down.

What Glasgow assessors are scoring: Panel interviewers want to understand how you think - not just what you say. They're looking for intellectual humility, structured reasoning, evidence of reflection on real experience (not theoretical), and a realistic awareness of the demands of medicine.

The cycle runs roughly January 2025 (start of prep) through October 2026 (UCAS deadline) to September 2027 (course start). Here are the milestones you cannot miss.
Decide and start work experience
Confirm medicine or dentistry as your career direction. Start booking work experience - at least one NHS placement (volunteering with vulnerable adults / hospital work) and ideally a private/non-clinical role to triangulate your motivation.
Open UCAT prep window
Begin Quantitative Reasoning, Decision Making and Verbal Reasoning practice. Most successful applicants start ~6 months out, but consistent low-volume early prep beats last-minute cramming.
UCAT booking opens
Book your UCAT slot for July or August (do not delay - popular slots fill within days of release). At £80 (UK) the test is non-refundable.
UCAT testing window opens
Take the UCAT. Allow 1 retake window if your first attempt under-performs (rare, and competitive applicants book early to leave room).
UCAT results + UCAS
Receive your UCAT score (immediate). Finalise your UCAS form, school reference, and personal statement. UCAS opens for submission early September.

What makes Glasgow different
One of the oldest medical schools in the English-speaking world. Your personal statement and reference are screened early, alongside achieved and predicted grades; UCAT scores arrive later in the cycle and are then used to allocate interviews among applicants who have already cleared that screen. Glasgow does not use the SJT at all.
