Overview

The Manchester medicine course at a glance

The UK's largest medical school, teaching through themed case discussions rather than lecture blocks — and one of the schools that still dissects. Clinical immersion starts at the beginning of year 3 and runs to the end of the course.

Teaching

How Manchester teaches medicine

"Active learning through the study of themed case discussions combined with learning in clinical placements", supplemented by lectures, practical classes, team-based learning and dissection.

What that means day to day

Case-based learning
Like PBL but more structured — the case comes with defined learning outcomes and a facilitator keeps the group on the intended path.
Team-based learning
You prepare before class, take a readiness test individually and again as a team, then apply it to problems with immediate feedback.

When you first meet patients

"From the beginning of Year 3 until the end of your final year, you will learn through immersion in clinical placements."
