Overview

The Buckingham medicine course at a glance

The UK's independent medical school: privately funded, January-start only, and 4.5 years rather than five. Fees are the headline difference — £41,500 a year for UK students — and the placement estate stretches from Milton Keynes to Cheshire.

Teaching

How Buckingham teaches medicine

The ratio of students to academic staff, clinical educators and patients "is kept low throughout Phases 1 and 2". Phase 1 uses integrated and interdisciplinary units structured around body systems in a clinical context.

What that means day to day

Integrated
Basic science and clinical medicine are taught together from the start rather than as separate pre-clinical and clinical halves.
Structure

Year by year at Buckingham

Phase 1
Foundational, systems-based learning with clinical communication skills.
Phase 2
Intensive work with patients and doctors in the clinical environment, through themed blocks across hospital and community settings.
