Read the guide →UNSW Medicine is a 6-year undergraduate MD. The first two years are pre-clinical. The final four are integrated clinical years across Sydney teaching hospitals, including Prince of Wales and St Vincent's, plus rural clinical schools. It stands out for mandatory research components and strong global-health pathways.
UNSW runs a 6-year direct-from-school MD with two pre-clinical years followed by integrated clinical and research years. The Indigenous Entry Program offers an alternative pathway; rural-origin applicants gain Rural Admission Scheme bonus weighting. Pre-interview ranking weights ATAR (or equivalent) and UCAT-ANZ; the MMI then carries roughly a third of the final composite.
Integrated curriculum. 6-year integrated MD. Phase 1 (years 1-2): foundations and scientific basis. Phase 2 (years 3-4): clinical practice with rotations. Phase 3 (years 5-6): pre-internship with research and electives. Independent Learning Project (ILP) required across the program.
UNSW is strong in these research areas:
Format: Structured panel interview with two interviewers (academic staff, clinicians or community representatives)
UNSW MMI runs ~10 stations of 5 minutes each with a 1-minute reading window. Stations cover ethical scenarios, communication and role-play, teamwork reflection, motivation, and structured current-issue debates. Interviews are typically delivered on Kensington campus, with virtual options retained from the pandemic cycle. Strong emphasis on personal insight and reflective practice.
~189 domestic offers (~135 CSP + ~54 BMP) plus ~40-60 international = ~230-250 total annual cohort (Fraser's UNSW Undergraduate Medicine Guide).
Founded in 1961. Based in Sydney.

UNSW MMI examiners explicitly probe how you connect personal experience to the values UNSW prioritises (equity, global health, rural and Indigenous health). Prepare reflective anchors on teamwork, ethical conflict, and resilience. Practise concise 5-minute-station pacing — many candidates over-talk in early stations and run short in later ones.
