See the course →Flinders offers two routes to the same AMC-accredited 4-year Doctor of Medicine: a graduate-entry MD on GAMSAT plus a semi-structured panel interview, and a 6-year Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine straight from Year 12 on ATAR plus UCAT ANZ with no interview.
Teaching is case-based and domain-organised, anchored at Bedford Park (Adelaide) and extended through two flagship regional programs — the Northern Territory Medical Program, taught at the Flinders building on Charles Darwin University's Casuarina campus in Darwin, and the South Australia Rural Medical Program, which delivers all four MD years in the Riverland and Mount Gambier — giving it unusually deep Indigenous health, rural and remote teaching networks.
Flinders runs one of Australia's first graduate-entry medical program in Australia (the medical school opened in 1974 with an intake of 64; four-year graduate entry followed in 1996) with a case-based, domain-organised curriculum, a semi-structured panel interview of approximately 45-50 minutes (not MMI), and a flagship Northern Territory Medical Program (NTMP).
The NT Government funds NTMP tuition under the NT Bonded Medical Scheme in exchange for a return-of-service commitment to work in the Northern Territory for at least two years after graduation; Flinders states that this return of service cannot be transferred to South Australia.
NTMP cumulative output 251 graduates since 2011 (10% Indigenous); Flinders reports 88% of its NT medical graduates are Territorians and more than half go on to practise in the NT (February 2026).
Case-based curriculum. 4-year graduate MD organised around domains of medical practice — health and illness, the doctor-patient relationship, health and society, professionalism, leadership, and science and scholarship — delivered through small-group case-based tutorials, clinical skills workshops and simulation rather than classical PBL.
Years 1-2 are campus-based at Bedford Park (or, for NTMP students, at the Flinders building on Charles Darwin University's Casuarina campus in Darwin, with teaching space also at Royal Darwin Hospital); Years 3-4 are work-integrated clinical placements with the Southern Adelaide Local Health Network, the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network, Royal Darwin Hospital and regional health services.
SARM students study the entire four years rurally, based in the Riverland or Mount Gambier for Years 1-2 and rotating through Riverland Mallee Coorong, Limestone Coast and Hamilton, or Barossa Hills and Fleurieu in Years 3-4. An 'Advanced Studies' research-or-coursework theme runs from Year 2 to Year 4, finishing with an MD4 Advanced Studies Capstone.

Flinders uses a semi-structured panel interview normally lasting approximately 45-50 minutes (not an MMI) — distinctive among Australian medical schools. A common set of scenarios and questions is put to every applicant, assessing quality of motivation, learning style, communication skills, pro-social attitude and approach to decision-making.
The panel is small and normally consists of an academic staff member, a community member and a doctor; interviewers are given nothing about you beyond your name, and any notes they take are destroyed. Short-listing is on overall GAMSAT score within the sub-quotas you are eligible for, conditional on the minimum of 50 in each section.
The interview is a hurdle — you must pass it to be considered at all, and a weighted GPA is only calculated for applicants who pass. Final selection rank is the equal weighting of three components: interview score, wGPA from the most recent Bachelor degree, and overall GAMSAT score.
Applicants living in metropolitan Adelaide (or metropolitan Darwin, for NT places) are interviewed in person; those interstate or more than 60 km outside the relevant metropolitan area may be interviewed online via Microsoft Teams. A non-refundable $65.00 (inc. GST) interview administration fee is payable when you book your slot. No performance feedback is given — only scores are recorded.
Flinders does not publish a single total MD intake figure; the intake is assembled from Bedford Park (Flinders Graduates max 75%, Non-Flinders Graduates min 25%, Rural min 28% of SA places, up to 5 Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander places, up to 4 Humanitarian Visa places), SARM up to 60 for 2027 entry (30 Mount Gambier, 30 Riverland), NTMP up to 24 Employer Reserved fee-paying places, plus a separate international intake. Indicative annual MD fees published for 2026 entry: AUD $13,558 Commonwealth Supported (domestic — the same student contribution whether the place is Bonded or Non-Bonded) and AUD $91,200 full-fee international; 2027 fees are not yet published. Separately, on the 6-year direct-entry Bachelor of Clinical Sciences / Doctor of Medicine (a different course, 2026 fees $9,537 CSP / $52,300 international), Flinders' published profile shows 73 students commencing in Semester 1 2026 — 35 domestic recent-secondary and 38 international.

Flinders' Northern Territory Medical Program is genuinely distinctive — examiners specifically probe candidates who apply with NTMP preference for understanding what living and training in Darwin and the Top End entails. Be ready with concrete reflections on Indigenous health, remote practice, and the cultural responsibilities the program emphasises. Remember the interview is a hurdle before it is a score — you must pass it to be ranked at all, and it then carries an equal third of the final rank with your wGPA and GAMSAT. It is a semi-structured panel of roughly 45-50 minutes, normally an academic, a community member and a doctor, working from a common scenario set, and they know nothing about you but your name — so nothing is carried in from your transcript.
