About Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University (DMD)

The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University, the only dental school in the state of Georgia, trains approximately 80–85 DMD students per year with a strong mission to address Georgia's oral health workforce needs. Established in 1965 within the Medical College of Georgia, DCG admitted its first dental students in 1969 and awarded its first DMD degrees in 1973. Co-location with Augusta University Health provides interprofessional clinical education, and the school's research enterprise spans oral biology, craniofacial genetics, and community dentistry.

DCG is the only dental school in Georgia, giving it a unique public health mandate to train dentists for the state's underserved rural and suburban communities. Augusta University is part of the University System of Georgia, and DCG benefits from co-location with the AU Health medical campus, providing interprofessional training opportunities with AU medical students.

Course & teaching

Integrated curriculum. 4-year DMD curriculum with early clinical exposure from Year 1. DCG has a large on-campus dental clinic serving Augusta and the Central Savannah River Area. Community rotation sites placed across Georgia provide rural clinical experience in Years 3–4.
