The Dental College of Georgia at Augusta University is the only dental school in the state. It trains about 80 to 85 DMD students a year, with a strong mission to address Georgia's oral health workforce needs. It was established in 1965 within the Medical College of Georgia.

It admitted its first dental students in 1969, and awarded its first DMD degrees in 1973. Co-location with Augusta University Health provides interprofessional clinical education. Its research spans oral biology, craniofacial genetics, and community dentistry.
