The University of Mississippi Medical Center School of Dentistry in Jackson is the only dental school in Mississippi. It sits on UMMC's health sciences campus and trains about 35 to 45 DMD students a year. Its mission is explicit: to address Mississippi's severe oral health gaps, since the state ranks among the worst in the US for dental health outcomes.
Sharing a campus with UMMC's academic medical center means students train alongside medical, nursing, and pharmacy students. The school also runs community dental outreach programs across the state.
