About Morehouse School of Medicine (MD)

Morehouse School of Medicine, founded in 1975 as part of Morehouse College and now an independent institution, is one of four historically Black medical schools in the United States. MSM has a defining mission to improve the health and wellbeing of underserved individuals and populations — particularly in the Black community and across the urban Southeast. The school is a national leader in health disparities research, primary care production, and physician diversity pipeline programs. Its Atlanta location in the historically significant Atlanta University Center provides a distinctive cultural and intellectual environment.

What makes it different

Morehouse School of Medicine is an HBCU-affiliated institution and one of four historically Black medical schools operating in the US today. It is consistently ranked as the top US medical school for its commitment to producing primary care physicians who serve underserved communities and as a leader in health disparities research. MSM's community health centers serve some of Atlanta's most vulnerable neighborhoods, and students engage with health equity research from Year 1.

Course & teaching

Integrated curriculum. 4-year MD with a strong community health and health equity thread throughout. Year 1–2 integrates basic science with social medicine and community health rotations. Clinical years include rotations at Grady Memorial Hospital (one of the country's largest safety-net hospitals), Atlanta VA, and MSM's own community health centers. A Research Intensive Track is available for students pursuing health disparities or biomedical research.
