Tutor insight
UAMS interviewers are primarily looking for Arkansas residents who will remain in the state after training. Out-of-state applicants face an extremely high bar and must demonstrate compelling ties to Arkansas or a strong narrative around rural and underserved medicine. In-state applicants should emphasize community roots, clinical experiences in rural or underserved Arkansas settings, and long-term career plans in the state. The MCAT and GPA thresholds are somewhat lower than national flagship schools, but mission fit and regional commitment are paramount.

US Healthcare Ethics: Medicare and End-of-Life Spending

Medicare data consistently shows that a disproportionate share of healthcare spending occurs in the last six months of life, often on aggressive interventions that do not meaningfully improve quality of life or survival.
