The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences College of Medicine sits in Little Rock. It is the only allopathic medical school in Arkansas, and the state's primary academic medical center. UAMS was founded in 1879 and trains most of Arkansas's physicians.

Its mission is to address healthcare workforce shortages, rural medicine, and the wide health gaps facing one of the nation's most medically underserved states.
