Read the guide →The University of Texas at Tyler School of Medicine was founded in 2020. It is a public medical school set up to address the severe physician shortage and poor health outcomes in East Texas. It sits in Tyler, the commercial and medical hub of the region.
Training runs through its affiliation with the UT Health East Texas hospital network, which covers Level I trauma, cancer care, and community health services. As the newest UT System medical school, it built its curriculum around an explicit East Texas community health mission. It trains a small initial cohort of physicians committed to the region.
UT Tyler School of Medicine is the newest medical school in the UT System. It was established specifically to address East Texas's acute physician shortage. UT Tyler School of Medicine, the newest medical school in the University of Texas System, held its 2025–26 interviews in person at its Tyler campus in East Texas. Interview day has two parts: Multiple Mini-Interviews (MMIs) and a group activity in which candidates work together on a challenge; the school does not publish a station count or station length.
The school was founded with an explicit mission to address severe physician shortages in East Texas and Northeast Texas — one of the most medically underserved regions in the state — and interviewers probe genuine commitment to this mission. The interview day includes a campus tour, admissions presentation, and interaction with current students.
