A-Level and academic profile
Sheffield requires AAA including Chemistry and Biology. Warwick (GEM) requires A*AA (for undergraduate) - Graduate entry also available. Warwick (GEM) is the stricter A-Level offer; Sheffield is slightly more forgiving. If your predicted grades are borderline, Sheffield carries the lower academic-rejection risk pre-interview. GCSE profile matters at both schools — Sheffield: Minimum 5 GCSEs at grade 7 (or 5×6 for Access Sheffield). Grade 6 in Maths, English Language and 3 sciences (or dual-award 6-6). Warwick (GEM): Not applicable - Warwick is a graduate-entry-only programme. Requires a 2:1 honours degree (any subject).
Interview formats
Both Sheffield and Warwick (GEM) use MMI interviews, so the underlying prep approach is the same — practise ethics frameworks, NHS hot-topic answers and (for MMI) structured station responses against a timer. Interview windows: Sheffield interviews in November - February; Warwick (GEM) in December.
Curriculum and teaching style
Both schools deliver a PBL-style curriculum, so day-to-day study habits will feel similar across years 1-3. Specifics: Five-year MBChB with problem-based learning core. Clinical placements across Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Yorkshire region. Four-year accelerated MBChB for graduate entrants. Problem-based learning with significant clinical exposure from Year 1. Sheffield prioritises balanced performance - applicants achieving 3/5 or more in every section are favoured over those who peak in some and dip in others. Warwick (GEM): Graduate entry programme with selection-centre structure rather than traditional MMI. Strong emphasis on team working and observed group behaviour. Interviewers score across the full range of activities.
