Overview

About LECOM Elmira (DO)

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Elmira is a LECOM campus located in Elmira, New York, in the rural Southern Tier region of upstate New York. Opened in 2020, the campus partners with Arnot Health, the dominant health system in the Chemung County area.

The Southern Tier is one of the most underserved rural regions in New York State, and LECOM Elmira was established specifically to address the region's chronic physician shortage. The campus brings LECOM's multi-track curriculum model to Upstate New York.

What makes LECOM Elmira (DO) different

Applications via AACOMAS. LECOM Elmira is the only DO program in the Elmira/Southern Tier region and one of the newest osteopathic schools in the US. LECOM Elmira conducts its interview day at the Elmira, New York campus in the Southern Tier region. Sessions typically involve one-on-one conversations with faculty and a student, plus campus orientation.

As a newer LECOM campus in rural upstate New York, interviewers probe commitment to the Southern Tier's underserved rural communities — the region has significant poverty, limited healthcare access, and one of the highest opioid burden rates in New York State. LECOM's professionalism standards apply here as at all campuses; applicants should review conduct policies in advance.
