Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) Elmira is a LECOM campus located in Elmira, New York, in the rural Southern Tier region of upstate New York. Opened in 2020, the campus partners with Arnot Health, the dominant health system in the Chemung County area. The Southern Tier is one of the most underserved rural regions in New York State, and LECOM Elmira was established specifically to address the region's chronic physician shortage. The campus brings LECOM's multi-track curriculum model to Upstate New York.
What makes it different
Applications via AACOMAS. LECOM Elmira is the only DO program in the Elmira/Southern Tier region and one of the newest osteopathic schools in the US. Its Arnot Health partnership provides an immersive community health system training model in a region deeply in need of physicians. The small campus offers a tight-knit learning environment unusual in the LECOM system.
Course & teaching
Integrated curriculum. 4-year DO curriculum with OMM integration throughout. LECOM Elmira offers the LECOM curriculum track options (LDP, PBL). Years 1–2 at the Elmira campus; Years 3–4 clinical rotations primarily at Arnot Health facilities and affiliated rural practices in the Southern Tier and broader LECOM network.
