About UNE COM (DO)

The University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNECOM), founded in 1978, is the only medical school in Maine and one of the oldest osteopathic medical schools in New England. Located on UNE's Portland Campus for the Health Sciences (relocated from Biddeford in 2025), UNECOM trains physicians with a strong primary care and rural health mission, preparing graduates to serve Maine's widely dispersed and often underserved population. The school benefits from UNE's interprofessional health professions campus.

What makes it different

AACOMAS application. Only medical school in Maine — graduates disproportionately address Maine's physician shortage. Located on UNE's Portland Campus for the Health Sciences. Interprofessional health sciences university provides multi-disciplinary training opportunities uncommon at standalone medical schools.

Course & teaching

Integrated curriculum. 4-year DO curriculum with OMM integrated throughout. Pre-clinical years at UNE's Portland Campus for the Health Sciences; clinical rotations across Maine, New England, and affiliated sites in other regions. Strong rural and community health clinical placements. Interprofessional education opportunities with co-located nursing, dental, pharmacy, and allied health programs.
