- Closing the Gap is a national strategy with 17 socio-economic targets agreed between Commonwealth, state, territory governments, and Coalition of Peaks (an alliance of Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander community-controlled peak bodies). The 2020 refresh shifted power-sharing significantly.
- Health-specific targets include closing the life expectancy gap by 2031, halving the under-5 child mortality gap, and 95% Indigenous 4-year-olds enrolled in early childhood education. Progress is mixed — some targets (early childhood enrolment) are on track, others (suicide, child removal rates, adult incarceration) have worsened.
- Show awareness that the refreshed framework is built around four Priority Reforms: shared decision-making, building the community-controlled sector, transforming government organisations, and shared access to data. 'Closing the Gap' isn't a slogan — it's a structural reform program.
