About Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (DO)

Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine (ICOM), founded in 2016 (first class matriculated August 2018) and based in Meridian, Idaho, is the only medical school in the state. ICOM was established specifically to address Idaho's severe physician shortage — Idaho consistently ranks among the lowest states for physician-to-population ratios. The school is located in the Treasure Valley, one of the fastest-growing metropolitan regions in the United States, and focuses on producing primary care physicians for Idaho and the broader rural Intermountain West.

Applications via AACOMAS. ICOM is the only medical school — MD or DO — in Idaho, giving it a critical workforce development mission that no other institution shares. Its Meridian location offers access to the rapidly growing Boise metro healthcare ecosystem while maintaining a focus on rural Idaho. ICOM has active rural training tracks and community health partnerships across the state.

Course & teaching

Integrated curriculum. 4-year DO curriculum with OMM integrated throughout all years. Years 1–2 at the Meridian campus; Years 3–4 consist of clinical rotations at affiliated hospitals and rural practices across Idaho, Eastern Oregon, and the broader Intermountain West. Frontier medicine electives available.
